March is the time for a favourite plant of many, the Shamrock plant. People love to bring in the luck of the Irish for St. Patrick’s Day on March 17th. And this plant is considered quite lucky. The three leaves of the shamrock plant are said to mean faith, love and hope. The fourth leaf on the shamrock is luck! If you find yourself lucky enough to receive one of these plants this year, here are a few quick tips to help you care for them.
Light – bright, but indirect, like most plants the shamrock plants thrive in an east-facing window
Water – it is best to water shamrocks from the bottom, this means letting the plant in its plastic pot sit in about an inch of water for a few minutes to absorb what it needs, this avoids over-watering, always allow the top 2″ of the soil to dry out completely before watering again
Temperature – shamrocks do best in 60 to 70 degrees during the day and 55 to 65 degrees at night, so hot and humid areas are not best for these lovely green plants
