Tips for Choosing your Wedding Flowers

“A bride’s bouquet is a once in a life-time accessory”. As such, owner & designer Krista Mackler considers it to be the statement piece at your wedding. Her advice? Focus on what you desire most in your dream bouquet.  Once your deam bouquet is selected, you can explore different options to ensure that your coordinating pieces carry the theme, while still fitting within your budget.”

Here are some other things for brides to consider when planning:

  • Set a budget
  • Don’t worry too much about the current trend; let your choice reflect your personal style and taste
  • No matter how many times you may hear that flowers don’t last; flowers are the finishing touch that leaves a lasting impression of your day
  • Pinterest like crazy and come prepared to your consultation with images to show your likes and dislikes; trust in your florist’s knowledge and experience on how to achieve your vision.
  • Keep in mind that the season in which you wed will affect your choice; if a flower is out of season it can be imported, but at a higher cost. You can still achieve the same look with seasonal flowers in a similar colour.
  • Create a list of required floral pieces early in the planning. Can any be reused (ie: bouquets used on the head table instead, church arrangements moved to the reception space)?
  • Prearrange all set up details and delivery location and times to eliminate a phone call to coordinate on the day of.

Kelly’s First Chuppah

We first met Stephanie and Kiva at the Temple's Wedding Show in November of 2014. The couple attended the show to select vendors, including a florist for their upcoming nuptials on October 10th 2015. Stephanie and Kiva were also searching for someone who could provide them with a Chuppah, a beautiful necessity for their Jewish ceremony.

After meeting with the couple and discussing their wedding wishes, I offered to build them a Chuppah. Together we concluded that we would make the Chuppah from cedar, grapevine, moss and fresh flowers. The couple especially like the idea of using outdoor elements to compliment the outdoor beauty of Temple’s.

The Assembly of Our Chuppah

• To start, we cut cedar posts in 7 foot lengths from our family property, 10 min South West of Perth.
• After cutting the posts, they were screwed together in groups of three and wrapped in grapevine.
• The crossers were single cedar posts also wrapped in grapevine.
• Planks were used on the bottom of the Chuppah for extra stability
and hidden with grapevine and moss.
• The top was made of lovely vintage lace, tacked to stay in place.
• Finally, fresh daisies, alstromeria, babies breath, limonium, and
preserved moss were placed between the vines for an added
splash of colour.

The finished Chuppah provided the perfect backdrop for Stephanie and Kiva as they exchanged their vows. The completion of this project was a first for me and I was extremely pleased to be able to add this special touch to what was a wonderful wedding.

"Absolutely perfect chuppah! Thank you for bringing our vision to life, you are a true artist!"
- Stephanie
